Jeanna’s Story
“God has a way of showing up and showing me things I don’t expect.”
Jeanna was working at a Catholic school in Wichita when she was invited to a praise and worship night at a local church. Little did she know that her life was about to change. That night, Jeanna encountered Vagabond for the first time. She was so moved by their witness. Feeling a fire building in her, she left with a desire to know more. “I Googled Vagabond Missions on the drive home and I even signed up for the newsletter. But, I thought to myself, ‘Mission work? I just got married! I can’t go overseas! But, I didn’t realize mission work happens right here, at home.’”
Jeanna let the idea of mission slip from her mind, until she received a recruitment email from Vagabond. It stirred something in her again, reminding her of that fire she felt that first night. So, she prayed about it thinking, “Maybe this is the Holy Spirit?”
After reaching out to Vagabond, it was a very fast process, and before long she was a missionary in Wichita.
“It has been so easy to fall in love with the kids. It’s as simple as just seeing them as children of God.”
Jeanna served as a missionary in Wichita for 2 years before taking on the role of area director.
“Before Vagabond, I always worked in inner city schools, but now I get to blend my personal life with the work I’m doing. It doesn’t feel like the two things are separate. I get to go to Mass with the young people. My husband and my toddler get to come to our retreats. The young people get to watch my family grow and my baby grow up. It’s like one big family!”
Jeanna has learned so much about God since her first encounter with Vagabond.
“God has a way of showing up and showing me things I don’t expect. He’s always present.”
