WHO WE ARE

what is a vagabond?

Jesus made His mark going to the margins of society, spending time with outcasts, lepers, poor and marginalized. And for that, they called Him a rebel. But Jesus wasn’t a rebel. Jesus simply went where His love was needed most. And that’s the mission we try to carry out today. 

In inner-city communities and neighborhoods, where the local Catholic parish is more likely to have a boarded up window than a full-time youth minister, Vagabond missionaries show up, reach out and serve.

We’re not rebels or misfits. We’re just willing to follow Jesus into the unfamiliar, get a little uncomfortable and do something most of the world won’t understand.


That’s what it means to be a Vagabond missionary. 

LOVE HAS TO BE PUT INTO ACTION, AND THAT ACTION IS SERVICE.… THIS IS THE MEANING OF TRUE LOVE, TO GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS.

What we do

Vagabond Missions is a Catholic apostolate that builds relationships with young people in inner-city communities to help them fall in love with Jesus.

  • Street Evangelization

    We go out and meet young people on their turf: coming home from school, playing basketball at the park, or walking through the projects.

  • Help Young People Meet Jesus

    We invite these young people into a relationship with Jesus. We offer youth nights and bible studies out of our youth centers. We mentor and help them navigate life’s difficulties.

  • Solidarity builds community

    We know that all of us are reliant on God’s providence, and that shared reality helps us to build community. We are interwoven into the lives of our young people and their families, and in turn they are drawn closer to the Catholic Church.
