The Vagabond Missions Podcast

SEASON 1

EP. 1 – THE GIFT

Starting an inner-city outreach all started with hanging out in the Projects. Often times when we encounter the poor as a Church, we decide we need to give them stuff. Perhaps that’s not the best gift we can give…

EP. 2 – ASSAULTED

Sometimes serving inner city kids is exhausting. They can be rude or disinterested. Sometimes, the weight of sadness is difficult to bear. In this episode Christopher Kerfoot shares a story when it went much further than that…

*Note to the listener: For those of you who have ever thought, “I’d like to do Vagabond Missions” but after this episode thought, “Aw hell no” – these were the wild west days of Vagabond Missions. We have changed many policies and procedures since this time. In addition, this is one of the only times in 16 years a missionary has ever experienced violence. Definitely the exception, not the norm.

EP. 3 – UNEXPECTED BEAUTY

Sometimes we find beauty in an unexpected place. Often times this is the case at Vagabond Missions. Acceptance, gentleness, charity sneaks up on us and makes a life changing impact. In today’s episode, Meg Pirro (a veteran missionary) shares such a story…

EP. 4 – LIFE AND DEATH

Unfortunately in the inner-city, death is a normal occurrence. In this episode Maddy Burns, a former missionary, shares her broken heart from the death of teen who became a good friend.

EP. 5 – ANGEL

Good friend (and Steubenville chaplain) of Vagabond Missions, Fr. Drake McCalister shares that sometimes when we simply show up, God does big things. Since this story (and his ministry in Seatle), Fr. Drake became a priest and now serves in the Diocese of Steubenville OH and helps in the formation of Vagabond Missionaries.

EP. 6 – OUT FOR BLOOD

Felix Caro, a missionary in North Carolina, shares about a teen he loved and that boy’s involvement in a gang.

EP. 7 – LOVED

Our Director of Recruitment, Mark Pirro, served as a missionary with Vagabond Missions for 10 years. He started as a punk kid from New York. And then God called him to something greater. This is his story…

EP. 8 – GLORY STORY

Sometimes working at Vagabond Missions is heartbreaking but sometimes it gives you a front row seat to God’s glory. Today Andy Churray, a long time missionary and Area Director, shares such a story.

EP. 9 – BEGINNINGS

A shirtless, stoned, street rat has his life flipped turned upside down by Jesus and the ripples are incredible.
